Mangaluru: Residents protest against pile of trash on Ullal beach road

Mangaluru, Jun 20: The residents of Ullal, who have been distressed by the presence of piles of trash near Ullal beach for several years, causing unbearable stench, contaminating the well water in the vicinity, and creating unhygienic living conditions for tourists and locals, have initiated protests by placing the trash on Ullal Kodi approach road.

The protests, organized by the Parisara Samrakshana Okkoota Ullal, led by Nadi Parisara Samrakshana Samithi, Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Jamathe Islami Hind, Mogaveera Mahila Sangha, Solidarity Youth Movement, Shivaji Ijugarara Sangha, Maruthi Yuvaka Mandala, Brothers Sports Club, and other local organizations, will continue until the trash is cleared from the vicinity of Ullal beach.

Riaz Mangaluru of Parisara Samrakshana Nagarika Okkoota Ullal expressed concerns over the potential destruction of water bodies due to the presence of trash on the seaside. The issue was brought to the attention of the local administration and district administration, but no action has been taken so far.

Commissioner of the municipal council, Vani Alva, requested a minimum of one month to resolve the issue. Present at the protest were Faruk Alekala, Fairoz, Ganesh Mogaveera, Selvi Jagannath, Pravin, Savita, Hameed Ullal, Harish, and others.

Ullal police and reserve police have provided security at the site.
