Hyderabad, Jul 22:  A daylong strike called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) crippled normal life as buses of the state-owned Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) went off the roads on Friday July 22.

The strike has been called in protest against the state government for not allowing the Telangana leaders to pay homage to M Yadi Reddy who committed suicide on Wednesday July 20 in New Delhi. JAC is also protesting the state's attempts to curb the right of the employees to go on strike.

Reddy's body was flown in from Delhi and was later shifted to his native village Peddamangalarm in an ambulance. Several Telangana supporters who were on their way to the airport to receive his body were arrested.

Educational institutions, shops and business establishments all remained closed on Friday.

Protestors damaged about 20 buses on the outskirts of the state forcing APSRTC authorities to suspend all the services. Drivers and conductors of buses coming here from Guntur have been injured in due to stone pelting.  City services have also been suspended much to the dismay of commuters.

So far, this is the second shutdown in Telangana this month. The earlier two-day shutdown happened on July 5-6.
