Mangaluru: Case filed against driver hailed for 'heroic' prevention of woman's accident

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DRD)

Mangaluru, Jun 21: The Traffic South Police Station personnel have registered a case against Tyagaraj, the driver of the Gopalakrishna bus (KA51AC7835), for driving recklessly with a shrill horn. The incident occurred on the Mudipu to Thoudugoli public road around 12 pm on June 20, endangering the lives of others on the road.

The driver, Tyagaraj, has been accused of careless and high-speed driving, leading to the registration of a case under CR No. 148/23 IPC sections 279, 336, and 212(2)r/w under 177 IMV Motor Vehicle Act.

Ironically, this same driver had been praised earlier for his quick thinking that prevented a woman pedestrian from being struck by the bus in Naringana near Thadugoli on Tuesday morning. The woman had attempted to cross the road without noticing the approaching bus.

However, displaying presence of mind, Thyagraj immediately applied the brakes, averting any potential tragedy.

Its strange that the sale of such horns and installation of such horns has no control of the RTO and the Roads and Transport ministry. Why the ministry cannot give a list of approved Horn and Head light specification mentioning the Decibel Level and the Light Lumens and the angle of light. Simple things to implement actually.

Mr jossy... I dont know what makes you say that... I am a muslim but after seeing the footage , it is very clear that woman is equally at fault..Handling a huge bus is not like handling a car .Appreciate his presence of mind and driving skills where he managed to prevent a major accident. Case is too much..A warning for speeding would have been more than enough.

"for driving recklessly with a shrill horn" Even that horn was not enough for the lady to notice the bus coming. He was very lucky that his reaction time was quick enough to save her. Otherwise he would have been badly beaten by public

The lady there in the vedio is fully at fault. Driver actually saved her. Anyone who filed this case against the driver must be having some ulterior motive. Must be probed and dealt with severely. @DKShivakumar

The Police case seems to relate to a different incident later in the same day. The report says the incident with the woman happened earlier in the morning and reckless driving with shrill horn at noon.

If you see the video there is nothing heroic about his act. He was the one to blame for this. He was driving the bus extremely fast that the lady would have had no chance.

Heroic?? It is obvious from the footage he was driving fast and recklessly while approaching a busy road. The lady, though careless herself for crossing the road without looking, is lucky that the driver had space to squeeze his bus to the left, else someone else might have become victim to this driver's rashness.
