Mangalore, Jul 22: Third State Finance Commission chairman A G Kodgi speaking at the review meeting of the commission advised that files, applications to obtain licences among other issues in all departments ranging from the District Administration to Mangalore City Corporation, should be sorted out within a week’s time and the city corporation should lay more emphasis on increasing the revenue through cent percent recovery of taxes.

The review meeting of the commission was held at Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), here on Friday July 22.

Kodgi suggested that the water supply meters should be properly maintained on the backdrop of complaints heard by opposition leader Lancy lot Pinto that in some places the meter was not in working condition for 2 years and also irregularity in bill payment (people paying Rs 150 as water bill were asked to pay Rs 1500 and more) and double bills have made some people to evade the payment on time.

Commenting on Lancy Lot Pinto’s remark on flooded roads in city during rain, Kodgi said that taking up the road work alone and delaying the procedures of calling for bid to constrict the drainages should not be done anymore. Both road construction work and drainage work should go hand in hand, he stressed.

About revenue from the advertisement source, Kodgi said that MCC take care not to displayadvertisements, flex boards, hoardings in the city without the permission of MCC. He instructed the MCC administration to impose fine on violators.

However Kodgi expressed his happiness over the developmental works initiated by Mangalore City Corporation and said that in comparison to other city corporations in the state, MCC stands atop. He welcomed the move of MCC that at least after a long time period, it has initiated to follow scientific methods of disposing about 220 tons of solid waste produced in MCC limit.

MP Nalin Kumar was furious on some officers for not taking required files and necessary information with them while attending such meetings.

Joint Commissioner Vijayakumari Shenoy said that there are 483 unfilled posts in MCC out of total 1168 sanctioned posts including PRO, engineers, sanitary inspector and bill collector among others.

Member of the commission Dr Mahendra S Kanti, mayor Praveen, deputy mayor Geetha Nayak, DC Dr Channappa Gowda among other officers were others present.
