Mumbai airport on high alert after terror threat

Mumbai, July 22 (IANS) A high alert has been sounded at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport following the threat of a terrorist attack, a top airport official said Friday.

Since Thursday night, security measures have been implemented by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the Central Industrial Security Force, the Mumbai International Airport Ltd and all the private and government airlines, the official, requesting anonymity, told IANS.

The central alert has indicated the possibility of a terror attack using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or some other chemicals and advised the concerned authorities to be on their guard.

Passengers are being subject to thorough physical checks, restrictions have been imposed on vehicles halting or parking around the airport and random security checks are being done at all places, according to the official.

On July 13, Mumbai was rocked by three blasts using IEDs at Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar in which 20 persons were killed and over 100 injured.

India is virtually a country ruled by God-everything is out of control. Fortunately, there is successful governance and the people have the faith in it although not sure in future!

If a terrorist wants to do anything, it is very easy in India especially in a city like Mumbai.

Police releasing the sketch of the culprits is an absolute joke as it will serve no purpose, may be it is emanated from Western countries.

Only sad part is our political parties play vote bank politics and don't punish the hardcore convicted criminals which is an incentive to the criminals.

I have my doubts if any of these high alerts can stop terrorists. Security Lapse at Mumbai airport is so evident to me after i lost my laptop on tuesday 19th of July. At the baggage screening someone flicked it in no time. i raised an alarm and complaint. Cops had no clue even though they wre screening and there was no token system for the valuable scareening.

This happenned just a few days after Mumbai Blasts and security should have been more tight. I wonder how easy it is to do the damage. But fortunately the robber was caught through the help of CCTV after he landed in Delhi. This was a Robbery but what if some human bomb walks into the busy areas in mumbai - Like Bazars and stations and airports. Don't know how authorities can prevent such attacks.....
