Mangaluru, Jul 1: Two men attempted to loot passengers by flashing swords, between the stretch of Suratkal and Thokur railway tracks, on the train that was going from Dadar to Tirunalveli on Friday June 30.

The two men were taken into custody and two swords were confiscated.

The incident occurred on train number 22629. It is suspected that the strangers, who were speaking in Tamil, boarded the train when the train stopped at Thokur for crossing.

As the duo removed the swords and started flashing, the passengers of S7 reservation compartment ran towards the general compartment out of fear. However, Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) Babu K, Srinivas Shetty and Timmappa Gowda took risk and took the swords from the hands of two men creating ruckus. Later, they were handed over to Kankanady police station.

The TTEs and other railway staff who showed great presence of mind prevented any fatality. However, the duo managed to slit open many seats on the train.
