Bantwal: Hill collapses on house - One woman rescued, another found dead under rubble

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (MS)

Bantwal, Jul 7: Two women got stuck inside a house at Nandavaragumpu of Sajipamunnuru village as a hill collapsed on their house. While one woman was rescued, another woman was found dead.

Zareena (49), wife of Mohammed, resident of Nandavara and daughter Shafa (20) were stuck underneath the rubble. Safa was rescued immediately while Zareena was found dead.

Officials of Bantwal fire service department, police and staff of taluk administration rushed to the spot along with tahsildar S B Koodalagi.

Though it is reported that these kinds of mishaps are about to occur at many places of Bantwal taluk, it is gathered that the concerned authorities or people representatives are not responding. Even if the family members complain, the officials are giving lame excuses and staying away from their responsibilities as per the accusation made by the complainants. The possibility of houses and hills collapsing are more in the taluk. At least now, the officials have to wake up and take corrective action, opine the locals.

End users and investors should be very cautious while buying houses/plots in such areas with hills, because many dubious people are selling plots situated in high risk areas, which in the long run pose the risk of becoming victim of mud and landslides!!

We must make sure when we are building walls there must be a good deep foundation , Most wall collapses are due to shallow foundation

Bantwal and surrounding area is notorious for these type of houses built by cutting hills vertically without advise of experts regarding retainer walls etc, but built by local contractors; some places stone quarries filled up with mud and sold to gullible buyers who built houses on them! With massive deforestation soil has become loose over the years and now the results are coming out! A couple of years ago I had complained to the Bantwal municipal authorities regarding this issue along with pictures regarding high risk of mud and landslides, but no-one bothered to take action! Now these gullible people are on the brink of disaster; land owners made money by selling these sites and washed their hands off! God protect these people!

In the village hills are cut to a make place to build houses and also for farming purpose. Its natural when rains heavily the liose mud gives way and there occures land slides .😫
