Mangaluru, Jul 7: Pipeline installation for the drinking water project of the union government is going on a war footing. Most roads of the city, highway and PWD are damaged because of the work.

Drainages are being dug up on the side of the state highways and main roads of the districts using JCB machines without taking permission from the PWD. So are the pipelines being installed. As this work is being done during monsoon, vehicles which go to the extreme left to give way to other vehicles are getting stuck into the drain. In some places asphalted roads are being dug up and pipelines are being installed.

In Dakshina Kannada work related to Jaljeevan mission is going on at the Kalpane-Baiturli-Neermarga-Benjanapadavu Road, Edapadavu-Sornadu-Bantwal road, Edapadavu-Ganjimutt-Kuppepadavu Road, Vamanjoor-Moodushedded Road, Parari-Ulaibettu-Mallur roads. Residents of these areas are facing a lot of inconvenience.

PWD permission has not been sought to install pipelines on the side or roads in Mangaluru, Puttur, Sullia, Bantwal and Beltangady taluks. Excavators are used to dig deep trenches. Heavy vehicles are also getting stuck into these drains. This information was shared by PWD assistant engineer Sanjeev Kumar.

The contractors are rushing ahead with the work to get the grants that is released for Jaljeevan mission. Though the officials and locals are objecting, the contractors are not bothered.

PWD officials have raised complaints with rural drinking water and cleanliness department against the contractors of Jaljeevan Mission.

DC Mullai Mugilan said that he has received complaints from public of road damage and vehicle inconvenience due to unscientific digging of roads for Jaljeevan mission work. He has assured to look into the matter soon.
