Bengaluru, Jul 20: Even as the combined BJP and JD(S) opposition MLAs submitted a no confidence motion against State Assembly Speaker U T Khader to Assembly Secretary M K Vishalakshi, both the Assembly Speaker Khader and Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani along with Assembly Secretary called on Governor Thaawar Chand Ghehlot at Raj Bhavan on Thursday to explain the circumstances leading to the suspension of 10 BJP MLAs from the House.

Assembly Speaker U T Khader and Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani along with Assembly Secretary M K Vishalakshi, who called on the Governor in the morning, explained how the protesting members were shouting from the well of House on Wednesday and tore official papers and hurled them at the Deputy Speaker’s podium despite warnings. They refused to relent even after the Assembly marshals were summoned and continued their ‘’unruly, indecent and disrespectful behaviour towards the Chair’’ and the Speaker had no other alternative to invoke suspension of the ‘’disorderly’’ MLAs till the end of the session.

The 10 suspended BJP MLAs include two former Deputy Chief Ministers R Ashok and Dr C N Ashwath Narayan and two other former ministers Araga Jnanedra and Sunil Kumar besides Vedavyas Kamath, Yashpal Suvarna, Umanath Kotian and Bharat Shetty, the last five from coastal Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, and Aravind Bellad as well as Deeraj Muniraju.

The incident happened when Congress member from Malavalli P M Narendraswamy was speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday, and the BJP members raised objections to the deputation of IAS officers to receive the leaders of 26 national opposition parties attending the two-day conclave in Bengaluru on July 16 and 17.
