Mangaluru, Jul 30: The identity of the deceased whose mortal remains were discovered on the banks of the Netravathi river on Saturday evening has been established.

Family members have confirmed that the body belongs to Mohammed Zakir (50), a resident of Beloor in Hassan. Zakir had been unwell for the past few months and had been visiting a private hospital in Deralakatte for treatment. However, two days ago, he left home, stating that he was going to Deralakatte, but he did not return. Worried family members conducted a search for him in various places.

On Sunday, after seeing the photo of the deceased's body on social media, they went to Ullal police station and identified the body as Zakir's.

Police suspect that Zakir may have taken his own life by jumping into the river due to his illness.
