New Delhi, Aug 3: It is gathered that the case against former Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member, Amar Singh, suffers from lack of adequate evidence. The evidences on hand are not enough to put Amar Singh behind the bars in the case.
It is said that the policemen have failed to prove that politicians from Congress and Samajwadi Party had got in touch with Suhail Hindustani, who had reportedly donned the role of a middle man and induced BJP MPs to cast their vote in favour of the trust vote in 2008 in exchange for money. The then UPA government had survived the scare in the trust vote on July 22, 2008.
It may be recalled that BJP MPs had displayed wades of currency notes purported to have been given to them by men sent by Amar Singh for striking a deal to save the UPA government from embarrassment, in the parliament. In the case, Sanjeev Saxena, who allegedly had worked as an aide for Amar Singh, and Sohail Hindustani, had said that Singh had played a major role in the scam.
During the questioning by the police, Amar Singh is reported to have said that he had no links with either Sanjeev Saxena or Sohail Hindustani, who are in police custody now. In the meanwhile, the police have got permission to question BJP MP, Ashok Argal, and Samajwadi Party MP, Revati Raman Singh, in relation to the scam.
The Delhi Police, who were criticized by the Supreme Court recently for not showing any progress in the investigation during the last three years, want to wrap up the investigation soon, and file a status report thereafter.
