Beltangady: Youth arrested for threatening teacher through Telegram app

Beltangady, Aug 5: In a swift action, Venur police arrested a youth who had threatened a woman teacher, through Telegram app, of killing her husband and took Rs one lac ransom from her.

Ashwath Hebbar (23), resident of Atrinja in Sulkeri village of the taluk is the accused arrested by the police.

Ashwath demanded Rs three lac from Jyoti, who is serving as a teacher at a school at Perodittayakatte in Sulkeri village using a fake Telegram account. It is said that he threatened to kill her husband if she does not give him money.

Jyoti filed a complaint with Venur police. ASI Sowmya J, Ananda M and team arrested the culprit in the midnight on August 2 from Gunderi of Tenkakarandoor village.

The accused was caught in cinema style. Victim Jyoti with the help of police told the accused that she will pay Rs one lac. The accused told her to keep the money near Aladangadi Keddu. Later, he sent a message asking Jyoti not to keep the money at that spot and changed the locations three to four times.

Finally, the accused asked the victim to place the money near Savanalu Cross of Shirlalu. Accordingly, victim Jyoti placed the bag containing money at the said spot. The accused who arrived on a two-wheeler, took the bag from the spot. However, he managed to escape before the police who were hiding nearby could catch him.

Police tracked accused Ashwath Hebbar’s mobile phone and arrested him in the midnight from Gunderi where he was hiding in his elder brother’s house.

The police confiscated the bike and Rs one lac cash from the accused. The accused is produced in the court.3
