Mangaluru: Police arrest two; seize car, 17 stolen batteries worth Rs 5.5 lac from accused

Mangaluru, Aug 9: Bajpe police have arrested two persons who were involved in stealing batteries from parked vehicles in the night and recovered the stolen batteries from them.

Two separate cases were registered at Bajpe station pertaining to battery thefts from vehicles parked at Addoru in Bajpe limits, tipper lorries, JCBs and other vehicles parked in Kaikamba and Gurpur areas.

A police team conducted an investigation under the leadership of police inspector Prakash. The team on Tuesday, August 8, arrested Pratap (20) of Kolapilada in Moodupera's Eshwarakatte and Anil alias Ani (23) of Kundapura Church Road. Both of the accused were nabbed by the police while they were carrying the batteries in their car to sell them off.

The police seized a car worth Rs 4 lac and 17 Amaron car batteries valued at Rs 1.5 lac from the accused and were produced in the court of law.

A special police team was constituted to crack down on car battery thefts by commissioner of police Kuldeep Kumar Jain under whose guidance the operation was conducted. The team was able to crack down on the thefts under the direction of DCPs Anshu Kumar (law and order) and Dinesh Kumar (crime and traffic).
