Sydney, Aug 19: A colourful celebration of Tulu culture took place at the much eagerly awaited ‘Karavali Utsava 2023’ in Sydney, Australia, on August 13. Organised by Tulu Koota Sydney at Galston Community Hall, the event brought together about 320 people from different backgrounds to enjoy the vibrant traditions of Tulunadu.
Tuluvas from different parts of Australia and also from New Zealand converged to record the historical event.
Special guests included Tulunadu Manikya Arvind Bolar and Daijiworld founder Walter Nandalike, who added prestige to the occasion. The event started with the symbolic lighting of a lamp and a song by Ishee Abhijit Nair. Heartfelt speeches by the guests highlighted the importance of keeping cultural traditions alive and connecting with the Tulu people living abroad.
Men, women and kids dressed in traditional Tulunadu attire was a sight to behold.
The Karavali Utsava 2023 showcased a mix of performances, competitions, and cultural events. A special cooking contest without using fire allowed participants to display their creativity in making delicious dishes.
The highlight of the event was a captivating dance performance by the Natyokthi team led by Pallavi Bhagavath. This talented group had previously performed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Australia, making their performance even more exciting for the audiences.
The event continued with a funny skit by Walter Nandalike and Arvind Bolar who, entertained everyone thus adding a lively touch to the evening.
As the event wrapped up, the crowd enjoyed the traditional Balia music, which added a nostalgic touch to the celebration.
The event's success was attributed to the dedicated efforts of the organisers - Avakash Chand, Sumeeth Prabhakar, and Rathish Hegde. They were delighted with how the event turned out and expressed their gratitude to the community for their support and enthusiasm. They also thanked all the sponsors of the event.
