New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS): The central government has directed the states to strictly comply with Supreme Court directions on honour killings.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha in a written statement that there was no separate data on honour killings as these were treated as murder.
He said that in April this year, the home ministry told the state governments to make sure that Supreme Court rulings on the issue were not violated.
The Supreme Court has called for "strong measures" against honour killings and to take strong measures to prevent them,.
The minister said a group pf ministers had been set up under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee "to consider the issue of making a legal provision to deal with honour killings".
