Moodbidri, Aug 28: “Young generation has the power to change society. By inculcating human values and satisfaction in life, it is possible to achieve success,” said former Lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde.

Hegde was speaking after inaugurating 20 rent-free houses under the free housing scheme, the 1000th project of Humanity Trust Belman at Padumarnadu. The stage programme was held at Bannadka Panchajanya auditorium.

Justice Hegde further said, “In earlier days, those who went to prison and their families after committing crime were socially punished. But now, there is no respect at all. We are living in a society where richness and power is worshipped. Hence, we have forgotten humane values. If we are not satisfied and always greedy for more it is detrimental to the nation and the individual. It is really appreciable that the Humanity Trust is doing meaningful charity,” he said.

Vijayalaxmi Shibaroor, managing director of Vijaya Times, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said, “We should have a large heartedness. We should have values of love, charity, respect and encouragement in us."

“If the rich and affluent of India are willing and the wealth accumulated by politicians is utilised, India will beat America in terms of wealth. We are rich in nature and human resources. But it is really unfortunate that India is still called a poor nation. We should develop the habit of donating,” she said.

Founder of Daijiworld, Walter Nandalike was the special invitee. Addressing the gathering he said, “Humanity Trust founded by Roshan Belman is a very good example for unity in diversity. The trust helps the needy without considering caste, creed and religion. ‘Sarve Jana Sukhino Bhavantu’ has been practiced by Roshan Belman and his team. It is time to get rid of hatred between the religions and communities. An institution like Humanity Trust is the right answer for the religious fanatic minds.”

Donors who had helped in building the free houses were felicitated on the occasion.

Roshan Belman, president of Humanity Trust said, “Humanity is religion. There is nothing above it. Based on this motto our trust is formed. All those who have donated for this cause have done so willingly. We have helped financially poor people cutting across caste, religion and sect.”

Prashant Frank, trustee of the organisation welcomed the gathering and gave a birds view of the works done by the organisation. Trustees Naveen Shenoy and Roopa Ballal introduced the guests. Nelson Monish compered the event.

Prithvi Salian provided the details of the donors. Lloyd Rego rendered the vote of thanks. Roshan Belman said that Sapna borewell will freely dig borewell for two poor families of Udupi.

There are 20 rent-free houses on the 36-cent land that the Humanity Trust has received free as donation at Padumarnadu. Twenty homeless and poor families will be given shelter here.
