Mangalore: Monsoon Gains Momentum After Brief Lull

Mangalore, Aug 12: The rainfall, which had receded since the last some days, suddenly gained intensity on Thursday August 11. Compared to Udupi district, Dakshina Kannada district accounted for heavier rainfall. Karkala was the only taluk on Udupi district to get good rains.

Sullia, Bantwal, and Mangalore taluks received good rainfall, while Beltangady and Puttur taluks accounted for lesser rain in comparison. The city, apart from Ullal, Kinnigoli, Mulky, Bajpe, Subrahmanya, etc got heavy rain in the evening.  The average rainfall in the twin-districts hovered between three and five cms, with Subrahmanya registering five cms of rainfall.

The meteorological department has predicted heavy rain in coastal Karnataka during the next two days. It has warned the fishermen against taking to the sea, as it expects winds with a velocity of 45 to 55 kms per hour to blow in the coast.
