Ban on 'Aarakshan': Big B Dismayed

Mumbai, Aug 12: Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who has often expressed his thoughts and opinions on his blog, has now expressed his dismay over the ban imposed on 'Aarakshan'.

The controversial movie has not been welcomed in states like Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The three states have joined together to ban the movie's screening on Friday August 12.

The movie has been banned from being screened for two months citing law and order problems in the states.

Big B wrote on his blog, ""Without any knowledge of what the film contains, without any desire to determine the trust and the most basic principles of law of democracy, it has merely strengthened my and many others' fear of the weakness it conveys of our belief in governance and its ethics." He also questioned whether the law and order problems will be rectified after two months?

Distributors and exhibitors are at a loss due to the ban. Trade sources say that atleast Rs 15 crore revenue would be lost.

Commenting about the politics involved, Bachchan wrote in his blog,  "What is the need then of the Censor Board, a statutory body instituted by you, the legislatures and Parliamentarians that govern this land. You nominate what you believe, to disbelieve what you nominate!! Better to remove it altogether then rather than give it disrespect."

Bachchan's recent blog post also shows strong emotions poured in by the star. He wrote, "I shall believe and will always believe in the words that Dr Prabhakar Anand pronounces during the course of this film - Is desh mein do bharat baste hain .. aur sahi mano mein agar hum samaaj mein parivartan chahte hain, toh in dono ke beech ka jo antar hai use mitana padega ... (Two India's reside in this country .. and truthfully if we have to see any progress in our society, then the distance between these must be erased ..)."
