Supreme Court to hear petition on 'Aarakshan' ban

New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) The Supreme Court Friday will hear a petition by filmmaker Prakash Jha seeking the lifting of the ban on his film "Aarakshan" in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

An apex court bench headed by Justice Altamas Kabir said the matter will come up for hearing at 2 p.m.

The court passed the order after senior counsel Harish Salve and Mukul Rohtagi mentioned the matter before the court, seeking directions for the lifting of the ban imposed by the three state governments on the grounds of public order.

"Aarakshan", starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, deals with the sensitive issue of caste-based reservations in the Indian education system.
