RGV Deserves Standing Ovation: Mahesh Bhatt

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS): Acclaimed filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt describes Ram Gopal Varma as a "man who has audacity", and says he should be given a standing ovation for making an "outstanding" film like "Not A Love Story", which releases Friday.

"Ram Gopal Varma deserves a standing ovation for making an outstanding film, 'NOT A LOVE STORY' raises the bar for Indian Cinema," Bhatt posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

He watched the film Tuesday. The movie, which features Deepak Dobriyal and Mahie Gill, is inspired by the 2008 murder case of television executive Neeraj Grover, that led to the arrest of Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and co-accused, ex-naval officer Emile Jerome Mathew.

Maria, who was sentenced to three years in jail by a Mumbai court for destroying evidence, was released from jail last month after she completed the term in detention. Emile Jerome was sentenced to 10 years jail term after the court found him "guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder".

Bhatt, known for films like "Arth", "Saaransh", "Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke" and "Zakhm", is quite confident the film will be appreciated.

"Ramu uses a brand new technology in this film. This film will certainly be a game changer. 'Not a love story' is an audacious work of a filmmaker who wants to touch the audience rather than impress them. Its world view moves u. Ramgopal Verma's 'Not a love story'...is actually a great love story," he added.

The movie has been in news as Maria sent a legal notice to Varma questioning the content of the film.
