Panaji, Aug 20 (IANS): Bollywood and ad filmmakers are making a beeline for Thailand with over 100 films being shot by Indian producers in the Southeast Asian nation annually, a Thailand official said here Saturday.
"More than 100 films from India are shot in Thailand, be it Bollywood films or documentaries or ad films every year. We are actively pitching Thailand to Bollywood as a favoured shooting destination," Tomwit Jarnson, Royal Thai consul general based in Mumbai, told IANS.
"Thailand offers what we call best value for money for film production. Our costs are less and norms in Thailand are very relaxed as compared to other countries, say for example in Europe," said Jarnson, who is in Goa to promote Thailand as a tourism destination.
While some top Hollywood films like the Leonardo Di Caprio starrer "The Beach", Oliver Stone's "Alexander", Nicholas Cage starrer "Bangkok Dangerous" and more recently "Hangover II", have been shot in Thailand over the last couple of decades, Bollywood in the recent years has also started warming up to the country.
Nikhil Advani's "Chandni Chowk to China", Sanjay Dutt starrer "Blue" and the Rohit Shetty's "Golmaal Returns" were also shot in Thailand.
