Vijayapura, Oct 6: A youth of the district has made stellar achievement in organic farming in spite of the prevailing drought conditions.

Praveen Basappa Baligeri, a resident of Tadalagi village of Kolar taluk is the youth who has adopted comprehensive farming. Right from childhood he had dreamt of being an achiever on the agricultural field. He did his degree from Chitradurga horticulture college and did not opt for a government job but got himself involved in comprehensive agriculture and surprised everyone.

Praveen grows Chikku, Pomegranate, Jowar, Chendu flower and sugarcane on his farmland. He does not use any chemical fertilisers but grows crops through organic manure.

Praveen has adopted the American agricultural system which has very low cost. Farmers of nearby villages visit Praveen's farmland to get first hand knowledge of his farming techniques and also see the various varieties of trees that he has cultivated.

Praveen keeps the flowers, fruits and vegetables required for his family use and sells the rest. He prepares organic earthworm manure near his house and uses the same for his crops. He has grown various vegetables in the past five years. This year he expects to earn Rs 1 crore from the produce.

Dedication, hard work, determination will pay in many folds. Work hard and earn no shame. In life we must have all sorts of experience. My school days I too had slogged cultivating veggies and selling in Kankanady Market. 🥴
