Los Angeles, Aug 23 (IANS/EFE): Kimberly Stewart, the daughter of singer Rod Stewart, and Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro are the parents of a newborn girl, the online edition of Us Weekly reported Monday.

The birth took place in a Los Angeles hospital. It is the first child for both Stewart, 31, and the 44-year-old Del Toro.

Del Toro and Stewart are not linked officially, but the actor's representative confirmed in April that he was the father of the child Stewart was carrying.

"Benicio is the father and is very supportive," the representative said at the time.

Sources from Us Weekly said Rod Stewart and current wife Penny Lancaster were present at the hospital during the birth, as was Kimberly's mother, Alana Collins.

The name the parents will bestow on the child has not yet been made public.

Kimberly Stewart was briefly engaged to Talan Torriero, the star of the MTV program "Laguna Beach", but she ended their relationship two weeks after becoming engaged.
