Mangaluru: Likelihood of cyclone – Heavy rains expected in coastal region

Mangaluru, Oct 17: There are chances of cyclone forming due to the low pressure which has occurred at Lakshadweep on Arabian Sea. This will bring heavy rains throughout Karnataka including the coastal region as per the meteorological department.

Yellow alert is declared in the coastal region. Chances of rain accompanied by thunder is predicted on Tuesday.

On Monday October 16, heavy rains lashed for short time in the evening at Bantwal, Beltangady, Puttur, Sullia and Mangaluru.

The New Mangaluru Port Authority (NMPA) instructed ships, port users and stake holders to take safety precautions in the wake of cyclone. All operations at the NMPA will be stalled. The port administration also instructed vessels sailing from the NMPA to do so before the onset of the cyclone.

On Monday, a five-year-old child and woman suffered injury to her ear at Vamanjoor due to lightning strike. They were admitted to hospital.

Vehicular traffic got disrupted for more than one hour on NH 66 at Panambur, Kulur and Nanthoor during heavy rains in the evening on Monday.
