Mangaluru: 13th convocation of Yenepoya (Deemed to University) held

Mangaluru, Oct 28: “Over the past centuries there have been tremendous advancement in the medicine field which greatly contributed to the eradication and control of certain diseases saving millions of human lives on this earth. India has several medical educational institutions producing highest number of medical and para medical professionals compared to other countries in the globe. Although we achieved greater success in health sector, concerted efforts are required to achieve desired quality of life of people in the society. New technology, artificial intelligence and research are responsible for this kind of success in eradication and controlling diseases to increase the spam of life,” said Dr Azad Moopen, founder chairman & managing director of Aster DM Healthcare. He was the chief guest and delivered the convocation address at 13th convocation of Yenepoya (Deemed to University) on Saturday October 28 at the Yendurance Zone in the University Campus.

Further in his address, he emphasized the need for prevention and prediction of diseases, precision medicine and participatory decision making in achieving better treatment outcomes. “More attention is required in the field of research and innovation. Medical and para medical graduates are called for taking focused action on prevention and control of cardiac, cancer, neuro-degenerative and metabolic diseases,” he said.

Dr Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, the chancellor of the Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) presided. A total of 2277 candidates in faculty of dentistry, faculty of medicine, faculty of nursing, faculty of allied & health basic sciences, faculty of commerce and management, faculty of science, faculty of pharmacy, faculty of arts & social sciences were awarded with PhD, under graduate, and post graduate degrees. Nine gold medals were distributed to the toppers in various UG courses.

Dr M Vijayakumar, vice chancellor of the university welcomed and presented the annual report.

Y Mohamed Kunhi, chairman of IAE Trust, Farhaad Yenepoya, pro chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Dr B H Sripathi Rao, pro vice chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Yenepoya Abdulla Javeed, BOM member, Dr Akhter Husain, secretary of IAE, Dr C P Habeeb Rehman, trustee of IAE were on the dais.

Dr B T Nandish, controller of examinations, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) administered the oath to the graduates. Dr Gangadhara Somayaji K S, registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) proposed a vote of thanks. Other statutory officers, deans, centre heads and faculty from the constituent units along with members of academic council and board of management were present. Dr Mallika Shetty and Dr Rochelle Tellis compered the programme.
