Udupi: Bison falls into drainage pit, rescued

Udupi, Nov 8: A bison which had come from the forest to the town, fell in a drainage pit and was struggling to come out of it was rescued by timely operation here.

The bison had fallen into the drainage pit near Mahalaxmi temple, Uchila, Kaup on Monday night and was struggling to come out of it. The temple staff who saw it, alerted the forest department. The forest department visited the spot on Tuesday morning and began the operation in the night.

Sub zonal forest officer Jeevandas Shetty, Guruarj K, on duty forest officers Abhilash, Manjunath Nayak, Charan Jogi and driver Joy conducted the operation under guidance from assistant forest conservator Clifford Lobo and zonal forest officer Varijakshi. The temple management committee and staff cooperated.

The operation was conducted at night. The mud around the pit was pushed aside by excavator so that the bison could come up, said sub zonal forest officer Jeevandas Shetty.
