Mangaluru, Nov 15: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge directed the officials to be well-prepared to face the drought issue in the district.
"The district has seen less rainfall, so there are chances of an acute shortage of water in April and May. The district administration needs to be well-prepared to face it," he said.
He was addressing the officials at a review meeting held at Nethravathi Hall on Wednesday, November 15.
Mangaluru and Moodbidri have been announced as among the drought-hit areas, and 16 villages in Mangaluru, Mulki, Bantwal are facing water issues, informed zilla panchayat CEO Dr Anand.
The district-level officials need to provide information about the monsoon to taluk Panchayat EO, and they should relay information to the local MLA and the public to resolve the drought issue and be well-prepared, Kharge said.
"The decisions made in the meeting are not only important but the implementation and ensuring that the public faces no problems are our responsibilities. Officials need to work efficiently for the well-being of the public," the minister advised.
The district is known for tourist places, and if more tourists are attracted, then the revenue of the gram panchayat will increase, Kharge concluded.

Sat, Nov 18 2023I have two suggestions but am not sure about it . 1. Will Underground rainwater storage work in a huge capacity 2. I have seen in some wards of our Mangalore city there are very few water tanks built . Will increasing the number of water tanks help in water storage 3. Why can't we have a desalination plant in each district to covert sea water into normal water which will be safe to use

Thu, Nov 16 2023Take great care to stop the waste of water by residents & commercial activities. Issue water bill to each and every flat owners, instead of one bill to entire flat. By this method each flat owners use water careful and their society charges also come down.

Wed, Nov 15 2023People are still sleeping and thinking that nothing will happen; unless very strict and disciplined water conservation measures are taken, the potable water scarcity this time will be the worst in recent times; with most open wells drying up and contaminated, the only recourse would be borewell water supplied by pvt tankers!!
