Kadaba, Nov 16: A somber incident unfolded as Somashekhara (34), a resident of Renjala in Sirigrama, lost his life while bathing in the Gundya rivulet at Barchinahalla near Gundya.

On Tuesday, Somashekhara, accompanied by relatives from Madikeri who were visiting for Deepavali, ventured to the rivulet with his wife, brother, and three daughters. Tragedy struck as Somashekhara was swept away by the strong current while they were all bathing. Despite his cries for help, others were unable to rescue him due to the swift water flow. His lifeless body was discovered on Wednesday.

A case has been registered at the Uppinangady police station.

Somashekhara, formerly an autorickshaw driver in Peradka and Gundya, had been overseeing a relative's property and working as a daily wage laborer at the time of the unfortunate incident.
