Mangaluru: Banishment notice to Bajrang Dal activists – MP Nalin expresses outrage

Mangaluru, Nov 16: A banishment notice has been served on five activists of Bajrang Dal (BD) of Dakshina Kannada district. They have been asked to be present in front of AC of Puttur. This notice has been served against moral policing. The show cause notice asks the activists why they should not be banished for their acts.

Lathesh Gundya, Prajwal, Nishant, Pradeep and Dinesh are the five BD workers who have been served notices. Dinesh and Prajwal were shouldering responsibilities of Puttur taluk BD. Lathesh Gundya is the district co-convener of BD. The other two activists Nishant and Pradeep have also been served with banishment notice. Excepting Lathesh the other four carry one case each registered against them. Lathesh has cases of communal rioting, assault on cow transporters and moral policing against him.

An appeal for banishment has been sent by the Puttur city police station and Sullia police station. Latesh has been requested to be banished to Ballari while Prajwal to Bagalkot district. Once they attend the hearing, there is a possibility that they will be banished for a year. Last July, the same act was slapped on three other BD workers. However, BD had obtained a stay on the order.

Enraged by the serving of notice, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel met Girish Nandan, AC of Puttur and said, “What is the measure to banish the BD workers? Even for people who have just one case against them you have served a notice. So you banish me first. Why are you banishing activities of BD? Before taking out an order please do verify. Do not carry out orders due to some pressure.”

Speaking to reporters, Nalin said, “Congress is playing hate politics. They are banishing workers of BD by slapping false cases against them. This is not right. I condemn this move. I have taken the concerned officer to task. Banishment notice has been served to those who have just one case against them. We will not allow this to happen. After the Congress assumed power, two murders have taken place in Puttur itself. Four people have been murdered in one home of Udupi. What was the intelligence doing? Their hands are tied. Goonda elements are benefiting after CM Siddaramaiah has taken charge.”
