New Delhi: Swami Agnivesh Floats Theory of Conspiracy Against Anna Team
Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi (SP)
New Delhi, Sep 3: Swami Agnivesh, who has found himself in limelight often for various reasons including some controversial ones in the past, said that some members of Anna Hazare’s team had hatched a conspiracy to defame him. “I wholeheartedly extended support to Anna’s initiatives. But I was forced to move away because of the conspiracy to defame him,” Agnivesh clarified.
He said that the team members of Anna had with them a CD in advance. He felt that the timing of releasing the CD in which Agnivesh is seen telling a union minister to take harsh steps against Hazare, on August 28, indicates that there was a conspiracy. “They waited for three days and released the CD just before Anna was to end his fast. This makes me believe that there is something to it than what meets the eye,” he explained.
While he was asked to name the conspirators, Agnivesh was hesitant. “They were my co-activists. I supported their cause, but got betrayal in return,” he said. He also explained that the circulation of the video footing with controversial material was a deliberate attempt to malign him. “They could have talked to me and got the points clarified before maligning me. They did not feel the need to do so before releasing the CD,” he said.
Some time back, Agnivesh had termed the video clip as having been doctored and concocted for defaming him. He also had refused to confirm that the man he was talking to was union minister, Kapil Sibal. Agnivesh stressed that he had not committed anything wrong, and that if someone points out to him where he had erred, he is prepared to apologise to Anna and correct himself. Anna felt that his opposition to fast unto death initiative by Anna, and his appeal to the Gandhian to withdraw fast after parliament and Prime Minister requested him to do so, had distanced himself from some members of Anna team.
When contacted, Arvind Kejriwal, an important member of Anna’s campaign, preferred not to respond to the above comment made by Agnivesh.
About the option of taking legal recourse against his detractors, Agnivesh said he was not considering this option for the present. He said he is driven by spirituality, and that he does not like police interference. He said he is spiritually driven, and that he had also pardoned a BJP leader, who had attacked him in Ahmedabad in the past.
