Mumbai, Sep 3: In an exclusive interview, That girl in Yellow Boots star Kalki Koechlin speaks about the movie, co-written by her and her husband Anurag Kashyap.
Speaking about the ideology of the movie, she said that the idea was partly Anurag’s idea. She added that Anurg used to pick headlines and stories from various sources like newspapers and magazines. Putting two and two together, he formed an idea in his head. Kalki said that he then wanted Kalki to write the story from a woman’s perspective.
When Kalki has earlier written plays too, she was quite reluctant to write the story of ‘That Girl in Yellow Boots’. She said, “The subject was very difficult to write about. It wasn’t a subject I would have chosen myself; it’s very personal to Anurag. So that was tough. But he just said, ‘Write it like a theatre script, there is no pressure.’”
Speaking about her character in the movie, she said, “Anurag wanted this girl’s journey. So, I knew there is this girl, a British girl. That’s all I knew. And then some things came from my experience, my own experience of how men stare at white skin. So, there are instances of that in the film.”
Along with being a good write, Kalki is also a trained actor. She studied at Goldsmiths in London where she did an academic course on acting, directing, script writing, set designing.
