Sirsi, Dec 5: "I do not write fictional stories. Most of my stories are rooted in the background of social inequality, exploitation. It is unfortunate that the scourge of untouchability still prevails in civil society today," said known short story writer and Goa University professor Dr Prakash Paryenkar.

He was speaking at the ‘Kathasandhi and Samvad’ programme organized by Sahitya Academy, Narebile, Sirsi, New Delhi, in association with Chandana Pre-Graduate College on Monday, December 4.

The story of 'Kajro', which includes the plot of untouchability and social inequality that still prevails in rural areas, is told by Dr Prakash Paryenkar presented in the program. On this occasion, the storytellers recalled the national award for the Konkani film based on the story of 'Kajro'.

Sahitya Academy executive committee member and convener of Konkani department poet Melvyn Rodrigues, and writer Dr Prakash Paryenkar introduced, welcomed the guests and made introductory remarks. Lakshmi Narayan Hegde, founder of Malnad Education and Rural Development Association, H M Pernal advisory board member Sahitya Academy Konkani language, Srividya Kamath and Stany Bela were present on the occasion.

Prathana and Meghna, students of the college, started the programme by lighting the lamp by singing prayer song. Srividya Kamath compered the programme. Vijayendra rendered the vote of thanks.
