Jalalabad, Sep 6 (BNO News): A remote-controlled explosive device struck a vehicle carrying a district chief in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing him and three of his bodyguards, officials said.
Aseel Ahmad Khugiani, the Shirzad district chief in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, was killed in the blast, which occurred on early Tuesday morning at around 12.45 a.m. local time, governor spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In addition to Khugiani, three of his bodyguards were also killed in the blast, while a fourth one was injured. It was not immediately known who carried out the attack as no one claimed responsibility, although it is not uncommon for the Taliban to carry out such attacks.
Four district police chiefs have already been killed in Nangarhar Province in recent years.
