Udupi: Municipality officials conduct surprise raids on Malpe beach shops

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Dec 15: A team of officials from the city municipality, led by the municipal commissioner, conducted surprise raids on more than 20 shops near Malpe Beach following complaints from the public about the use of artificial coloring and harmful chemicals in fish dishes sold by these establishments.

Malpe Beach, a popular tourist destination, attracts thousands of visitors who often indulge in the diverse fish dishes offered by over 20 shops in the vicinity. These establishments serve a variety of items, including fish fry, masala fry, chicken kabab, and Chinese foods. Numerous tourists have complained to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) that many vendors use chemicals to enhance the taste of their food.

Responding to the complaints, the DC instructed the municipality commissioner and the secretary of the Beach Development Committee to investigate the matter. Commissioner Rayappa, along with municipality officials, carried out surprise raids on the shops and hotels.

The inspection revealed that some hoteliers and vendors were using harmful chemicals to intensify the flavor of fish and chicken dishes. The commissioner issued a strict warning to the owners, prohibiting the use of colors and flavor enhancers in the future.

Strict warning ?No fine best is cancel the licence of such traders. They dont care their warning .As soon as officers turn back they continue their usual business. They are not bothered about others health.Important money and business or give some money to officers at the back.

i do not understand why you got worked up after reading my comment..is it wrong that India is a third world country? is it not right that our govt officials are corrupt to the core? i lived in dubai for many years...if such case happens there means the licence will be cancelled or such a hefty fine will be imposed that the owner will be so careful....just because i live in a country does not mean that i have to heap praises even when i see something wrong....probably you are an andh bhakt who want to say jai for everything....that is why we have so many corrupt politicians...no one questions....even those who question like me are silenced by morons like you...

Last time when i visited Malpe beach just after one month visit of DC, i saw the items and cooking condition was very bad and unhygienic way, so i asked shop keeper he direct tells me that, "like that many of them come and go we have to see our business too" so i said i will complain if you keep like this open items with full of dust and the beach area lot of people spit and omit and that gets dry and same dust comes and falls on open food. but he was not frightened for complains. he was not costal locality, when muncipality gives permission should give proper rules and regulation to follow.

This should be a routine inspection like we see in Dubai eateries... Establishment owners maintain hygiene and acceptable ingredients... Unfortunately we here are subjected to whatever we get to eat in the name of fast food which can initiate faster race to nearest toilets... Gobi manchoori and kabab stalls are slow Poisson joints... Why only warning was issued?... There should have been spot fines issued as well along with compulsory closure for a few days...

Only warning them won't stop them from continuing this malpractice going forward; the municipality officers must also fine them appropriately for playing with the lives of innocent tourists. Also, a request to all tourists: avoid eating at such shady places; if possible, bring your own food and drinks from anywhere outside to be on the safe side.
