Mangaluru: Lokayukta B S Patil addresses public grievances, emphasizes officer accountability

Mangaluru, Dec 16: Lokayukta Justice B S Patil held a meeting at the at the zilla panchayat with district officers and the public to address their grievances on Saturday December 16

Addressing media after the meeting, Patil said, "Today, we conducted a meeting with district officers and the public to address their grievances. During the meeting, officials were made aware of the consequences of maladministration, dereliction of duties, and corruption as per the law. We discussed specific issues, and if necessary, inspections will be carried out, especially in Mangaluru city."

He further emphasized, "Regarding cleanliness in Mangaluru, we will inspect and register cases based on complaints, taking stringent action against officials if required."

Responding to inquiries about pending disposal cases in Lokayukta, B S Patil mentioned, "We are working on a war footing and utilizing our available resources to effectively tackle and dispose of cases. The annual complaint count has risen from 5000 to 8000, reflecting people's faith that their grievances will be resolved. We will strive to expedite case resolutions."

Regarding vacancies, B S Patil stated, "There are approximately 700 vacancies for various posts."

"We are committed to increasing the conviction rate by maintaining constant communication with prosecutors and investigating officers. This includes collective and individual interactions to ensure thorough investigations, truthful witness reports, and prompt case disposal. We are addressing various factors to boost the conviction rate,” he said.

The meeting was attended by deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan, police commissioner Anupam Agrawal, superintendent of police C B Rishyanth and others.
