Siddaramaiah terms BJP leaders 'insensitive' over their visit to Belagavi stripping case victim

Bengaluru, Dec 16 (IANS): Taking objection to the Central fact-finding meeting a Dalit woman who was recently stripped naked and paraded in a village in Belagavi district, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that the act showed the team members' 'insensitivity' towards the victim.

"Despite restrictions put in place by the Karnataka High Court, the BJP leaders visited the victim woman. They not only flouted the court's direction, but also displayed their insensitivity," Siddaramaiah said.

Taking suo-motu cognisance of the incident, the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court had suggested on Saturday morning that visits to the traumatised woman, who is severely distressed, should be restricted.

This directive was issued in the context of news about political leaders planning to visit the victim woman, Siddaramaiah said.

"Considering that the woman is receiving medical treatment, interactions with visitors could impact her health. Therefore, the high court has stated that it is necessary to restrict visits for her own well-being," he added.

The high court has ordered that no individual, group, political party, or others should visit the woman without prior written permission from the chief medical officer of the hospital responsible for her treatment, the Chief Minister said.

"Despite this, the BJP leaders, in a move to use a tragic incident for political gain, have visited the victim in the name of ‘truth-seeking’. This shows their blatant disregard to the court's order. The insensitivity and lack of respect shown by the BJP leaders and their national President J.P. Nadda, who sent the Central team, must be condemned by everyone," the Chief Minister said.

Siddaramaiah's remarks came after delegations from the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the five-member fact-finding committee of BJP MPs met the victim, who was stripped and paraded naked in Belagavi district on December 10.

He has a point, however it begs a question, would he have acted differently if he was warming opposition benches? Siddu is the latest revelation of Ashokha symbol and Satyameva Jayate. Last time someone got close drawing Satyameva Jayate through the mud, it did not run long on TV and nobody remembers that TV show anymore.

Siddah is right leaders visiting the victim is insensitive, but first if he has the guts he should tell this to his part leadership, who when such incidents happen in non congress ruled states are first in line to shed crocodile tears. To be honest no political party cares about women safety they all want to do politics when they are opposition.

Suresh, We guys made "big show" on Manipur because the govt did not take any action. The PM had time to visit foreign countries but had no time to visit Manipur that was burning on behest of the govt. The Central and State Governments were dead silent and let the State burning. While foreign media were telecasting news on Manipur, the paid godi media was silent. People were arrested for taking videos of the crime as the govt. did not want outsiders to know what was happening in the state. When the govt. was impotent and not taking any action, people have to make big show. God forbid, if such things happen to you or your family members, do you expect people to keep silent? The very people who were silent when Manipur was burning are now making big show. Why politicize the issue when the State Govt. is taking action?

Without an iota of doubt, the actions of the BJP leaders to politicise this event deserves to be condemned. They have shown total disregard to the feelings of the lady. A very inhuman act.

It’s clearly evident that BJP doesn’t care for the country and has no regard for its citizens especially the women despite court orders and health authorities advice not to visit the patient and trouble her. BJP is only interested in winning popularity and elections at the cost of people’s lives and blood. BJP wants to highlight this issue in media as quickly as possible to blame congress for this incident although congress has nothing to do with this but BJP wants to brain wash the woman who is fighting the trauma.
