Kaup, Dec 18: Police have arrested four individuals, including the boyfriend of the adopted daughter of social worker Leeladhar Shetty, in connection with the disappearance of the girl.

The accused are identified as Girish (20), the boyfriend of the adopted daughter and a resident of Shirva, along with three accomplices: Roopesh (22) and Jayant (23), both residents of Shirva, and Mohammed Aziz from Majoor. The accused, along with the adopted daughter of Leeladhar Shetty, were traced by the police near Kumble in Kasargod district.

The Shetty couple had adopted a baby girl 16 years ago due to their inability to have children. The girl went missing suddenly on December 16. Distraught by the disappearance, the Leeladhar Shetty couple took their own lives by hanging on the same night at their home. Cases of suicide and a missing person report were filed at the Kaup police station.

Accused Girish is facing charges of POCSO, rape, and kidnapping. The other three friends of Girish also have a POCSO case filed against them.

The operation was directed by SP Dr. Arun K, ASP Siddalingappa, and Karkala DySP Aravinda Kallagujji. The accused were apprehended by Kaup PSI Abdul Khader and his team.
