Mangaluru: KPSC exam row - Complaints arise as metal detectors handed to minors for security checks

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Dec 18: Accusations of negligence by officials have surfaced regarding the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) examination, which should have been conducted with stringent security measures and physical checks of candidates.

Competitive examinations for positions in the state audit and accounts department, specifically for accounts assistant positions, were held in various centers on Sunday, including the Government College at Balmatta. However, complaints have been raised, asserting that minor boys were employed to conduct physical examinations of candidates.

It is alleged that seven to eight minor boys were provided with metal detectors, and the checks were superficial as the boys lacked the understanding of the device's functioning.

Despite KPSC's instructions to all examination centers to employ mobile jammers, metal detectors, biometric face detection, and body cameras to prevent cheating and the use of electronic devices by candidates, it is claimed that officials at the Balmatta center displayed negligence.

Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan stated, "I do not have clear information about children being used for metal detector checks. KPSC had contracted an agency through a tender to carry out these checks. Information will be sought from the agency in this regard."

This is a mockery of security checks. Those responsible for employing minors should be prosecuted under relevant sections of labour law.

What you have said is correct, but I doubt if any action will be taken against those who have hired them.

Namesake security checks where the agency used short cuts to save money.... But we loose heavily in future as cheating candidates may become powerful bureaucrats... Nowadays every mobile camera is a walking journalist and hence officials have to be extra careful in their dealings... It is utterly stupid and callous to use children for such an important task....
