Beltangady: Drunken man brutally assaults wife, daughter; damages eyes

Beltangady, Dec 19: A horrifying incident unfolded in Shishila late on December 18, where a heavily intoxicated husband brutally assaulted his wife and daughter, causing severe injuries.

The assailant, identified as Suresh Gowda (55) and a resident of Kote Bagilu in Shishira Village, launched a vicious attack on his wife and daughter. Both victims have been admitted to Ujire Hospital for treatment. Suresh, originally from Haveri, has been married to Mohini for approximately 22 years, and the couple shares a 19-year-old daughter named Pooja.

Reportedly, the intoxicated husband engaged in a heated argument with his wife, during which he allegedly bit her face and eye. Subsequently, he struck her with a stick, causing significant damage to her left eye. The daughter, Pooja, also suffered injuries to her head and eyes in the assault, although her life is currently not at risk.

Following the attack, Pooja sought help from a neighbor, who promptly informed the police. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, and the injured mother and daughter were swiftly admitted to a private hospital. The accused, Suresh, initially fled the scene after the assault but was later apprehended by the Dharmasthala police during a search operation. The police are actively investigating the incident and have recorded statements from the mother and daughter.
