Murder cases on rise in Karnataka, reveals NCRB report

Bengaluru, Dec 22: In 2022, Karnataka witnessed a total of 1,404 reported murder cases, as revealed by the recent report from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The majority of these incidents were attributed to personal enmity or jealousy.

Comparatively, in 2021, there were 1,357 recorded murders in the state. Among the 28 states, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest murder cases, totalling 3,491, followed by Bihar and Maharashtra with 2,930 and 2,295 cases, respectively.

The murder rate in Karnataka stands at 2.1 per one lakh population, and charge sheets have been submitted in approximately 90.2% of the cases.

Breaking down the 1,404 murder cases reported in Karnataka in 2022, 706 were linked to controversies, 353 to personal enmity, 108 to illegal relationships, 59 for gain, and 44 related to love affairs. The gender distribution shows that out of the total, 1,007 victims were men, 394 were women, and three belonged to the third gender.

    People have become more and more impulsive... They never think of consequences when acting in haste... Even normal movements like riding on the roads can invite threat of murder from a rank stranger... It is better to mind our business in most places and be apologetic in case of human errors... Premeditated crimes were there from a long long time and they will continue to haunt the societies...
