Puttur, Dec 23: A fire incident occurred in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Taluk Hospital, prompting an immediate response from the fire service personnel who successfully extinguished the flames in time.

The two patients present in the ICU were quickly relocated to safety once the fire was detected.

According to hospital medical officer Dr Asha Putturaya, the fire originated when a chip from the air conditioning unit broke. "The air conditioning unit and adjacent instruments suffered damage," she said.

Upon receiving the information, MLA Ashok Rai, who was in Mangaluru, promptly rushed to the scene. Datta Maladharis stationed at the Puttur VHP office, along with local youths, collaborated with the fire brigade to efficiently control the fire.

The incident occurred in the late night hours, between 12:30 am and 1 am. Thanks to the prompt response of the fire brigade, a potentially catastrophic event was averted. Hospital medical officer Dr Asha Putturaya and the hospital staff took immediate action to transfer patients from the affected ICU.

Members of the Bajrang Dal, including Datta Maladaris from the VHP office, arrived at the scene after being informed, assisting in cleaning the ash-covered rooms in the hospital with water.
