Bantwal: Two arrested for snatching chain from shop owner

Bantwal, Dec 23: In a commendable display of prompt action, the police have successfully apprehended two individuals in connection with the chain snatching incident at a grocery shop in Ajjibettu, B C Road.

The arrested are identified as Ashoka (34), a resident of Baikampady in Mangaluru, and Sachin (34), hailing from Dambel in Mangaluru.

The duo arrived at the shop on a motorcycle, both wearing helmets. Under the pretense of purchasing items from Sarojini, the owner of the grocery shop, they executed the theft. Seizing the opportunity when Sarojini leaned over to provide them change from the cash drawer, one of the culprits snatched the golden chain from her neck. Subsequently, the duo made a quick getaway on their bike.

Despite the absence of nearby CCTV footage or other leads, the city police, led by PSIs Ramakrishna and Kalaimar, managed to apprehend the accused from the Benjanapadavu Karvali site. The district SP has announced a cash prize for the city police for their swift response and successful arrest of the suspects. Officers Irshad P, Rajesh S, Ganesh N, Mohan Y, and Vivek played crucial roles in the operation.
