Bengaluru, Dec 23: In the year 2022, Bengaluru, the capital city, has reported the highest number of acid attack cases in the country. According to the recent report from the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), the city police registered six cases of acid attacks during the year.

Out of the 19 metropolitan cities listed in the data released by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), Bengaluru claims the first position with eight women falling victim to acid attacks in 2022. Delhi and Ahmedabad follow as the second and third cities, with seven and five reported cases, respectively.

Hyderabad and Ahmedabad each recorded two acid attack cases. A particularly alarming incident unfolded in Bengaluru, involving a 24-year-old M.Com student. The accused had been stalking the girl for several years and resorted to throwing acid at her when she rejected his marriage proposal. The accused, who had been residing in the Tiruvannamalai Ashram in the guise of a monk, was apprehended in May.

In June 2023, a victim of an acid attack was offered a job on a contract basis in CM Siddaramaiah’s office. This positive step follows a similar case reported on June 10, 2022, where a young man splashed acid on a girl's face as she rejected his marriage proposal.
