Mangaluru, Dec 24: Captain Brijesh Chowta, a retired Indian Army officer and prominent BJP youth leader in Dakshina Kannada district, has been appointed as the secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka state unit.
Chowta, known for his leadership in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) during his college years, pursued his primary education at Milagres School, Mangaluru, and completed his PU and BSc from St Aloysius College. Furthering his education, he attended the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Notably, he was recognized as the best cadet in Mangalore University's NCC and participated in the Delhi Republic Parade.
Following his graduation, Captain Chowta cleared the Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE) and underwent training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai. He served as an officer in the 7th Battalion of the prestigious 8 Gorkha Rifles, contributing to various regions of the country, including Assam and Manipur.
Returning to his hometown in 2011 after voluntary retirement, Captain Brijesh Chowta aligned himself with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP. His leadership roles include serving as the Dakshina Kannada District General Secretary of Yuvamorcha in 2013 and the Dakshina Kannada District BJP General Secretary from 2016 to 2019. In the 2023 assembly election, he worked as an in-charge in the Byndoor constituency.
Captain Chowta's involvement extends beyond politics, as seen in his active participation in social, educational, religious, and cultural initiatives. He played a pivotal role in organizing the protest against the ban on the coastal folk sport of Kambala in 2015. Notably, he has organized the MangalurU Kambala for six consecutive years, showcasing his commitment to local traditions.
With his promotion to the post of State BJP Secretary, Captain Brijesh Chowta's sphere of service is set to expand further, reflecting his dedication to public service.
