Mangaluru/Udupi, Dec 24: Festive spirit pervaded the air as thousands of faithful flocked to churches to herald Christmas with joy and devotion.

A large number of faithful attended the Christmas Eve Mass at churches in the twin coastal districts on Sunday December 24.

Twinkling lights, stars and sparkling decorations could be seen in churches everywhere celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

Carol singing, vibrant cribs and attractive Christmas trees filled the air with much festivity.

Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha celebrated the Mass at Rosario Cathedral.

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop, diocese of Udupi celebrated the Christmas Eve Mass at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur. Fr Valerian Mendonca, rector, Milagres Cathedral and other priests were the con-celebrants.

As Jesus Christ was born at midnight, a religious ceremony was held during the night.

Cake and Kuswar (savouries specially prepared during Christmas) are in high demand. Many organisations are preparing Kuswar by themselves and supplying it to the needy.

Cribs are seen in the yards of many homes. Houses are decorated with miniatures and stars are illuminating in houses and churches.

Sales of Christmas trees, bells and Santa Claus costumes have hit a new peak. All churches are illuminated with lighting for the grand celebration of Christmas.
