Prashanth Kanathur bags best debut director award at Karnataka International Film Festival

Kasargod, Dec 26: Prashanth Kanathur, director of the Malayalam film 'Station 5' bagged best debut director award at the Karnataka International Film Festival held recently. The film features the failures of the Indian democratic system and the lawlessness of elections.

The film has received a good response from the audience. Prashant made fun of the election process by using a donkey in the film. ‘Station-5' is a unique film among the new generation. The director has presented the subject of parallel cinema in a popular manner.

Prashant Kanathur, who hails from Kasargod district, has directed 13 short films and gained attention in many film festivals such as IFFI Goa International film festival and London Transgender Film Festival.

‘Station-5’ was screened in theatres in 2022 and got good reviews, but due to the Covid pandemic, it did not reach out the audience in the right way.

Director Prashant Kanathur hopes that the film will get global reach with the release of ‘Station-5’ on the OTT platform.

The film was produced by B A Maya under the banner of MAAP FILM factory. Noted Malayalam film actor Indrans, T Prayan, Priyamvada Krishnan, Diana Hameed, I M Vijayan, Sunil Sugata, Rajesh Sharma, Vinod Kovoor, Nanjiamma acted in the film. The music for the film is composed by director Prashant Kanathur.

K S Chitra and Nanchiyamma rendered the songs for the film. Camera was handled by Pratap Nair.
