Mangalore: State-level Beary Convention on December 10-11

Mangalore, Sep 15: A two-day state-level Beary convention will be organised by the state Beary Sahitya Academy on December 10 and 11 this year, said Academy chairman M B Abdul Rahman here on Thursday September 15.

Addressing a press meet, Rahman said that the convention will be held on massive scale with around 1500 representatives from Beary associations from various parts of the country and abroad taking part. Over10,000 people are expected to take part, he added.

The convention will be organised under the leadership of former state education minister B A Moideen, and will include a number of sessions like poets' meet, debates and interaction with writers and poets.

Works on Beary language, culture and history authored by English and Kannada writers will be released on the occasion. There will also be discussions on topics related to Beary community like education and status of women.

The convention will also showcase an exhibition, a food festival and a cultural show, Rahman said. Eminent personalities will be honoured.

This is the first such convention being organised by the Academy in Mangalore after its formation, he informed.
 
Registrar of the Academy Umarabba, members Raheem Uchil and P Mohammed and others were present.
