Kundapura, Jan 21: Udupi district and Kundapura taluk units of the Karnataka state government NPS employees’ association Bengaluru held a protest on Sunday at Shastri Circle of the town urging withdrawal of new national pension scheme (NPS) and implementation of the old pension scheme (OPS).
Speaking on the occasion, president of the association, Harish Shetty said, “From 2010 we have been holding peaceful protests. In Bengaluru we held do or die protest for 15 days. More than two lac state government employees of Karnataka are insecure due to no definite pension. We need assurance of security during our retired lives.”
Teacher Chaithra B Shetty said, “Under the new pension scheme 10% of salary is deducted every month. Government adds 14% and invests the same in the capital market. This is an unscientific and a lethal method. After retirement leading life will be difficult due to the small amount of money. As per the agreement government should withdraw NPS and introduce OPS.”
Sunita, vice-president of Kundapura unit of Karnataka state government NPS employees’ association, Raghavendra M, treasurer Gurumurthy, Kundapura taluk hospital care giver officer Bharati, Pallavi, Sandhya Shetty, Rajeeva Shetty Kali and other officer bearers of NPS employees were present.
