Mangaluru, Feb 9: The Union government has approved the establishment of a CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) Wellness Centre in the city of Mangaluru, fulfilling a longstanding demand of retired Union government employees.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, recognizing the importance of this initiative, met with the union health minister and appealed for the opening of a CGHS facility in Mangaluru. Responding to this appeal, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, the union minister of health and family welfare, wrote a letter to MP Nalin, confirming that CGHS wellness centres would be established in 20 cities across India, including Mangaluru.

With over 5,500 central government employees currently serving in Dakshina Kannada and neighboring districts, in addition to 29,000 retired employees, the establishment of this centre will provide convenient access to medical treatment in accordance with the rules of their central government employment.
