Sullia, Sep 24: Shivaprasad (20), son of Bommetti Nagappa Gowda from Madappady village in the taluk, ended his life by hanging himself in the bathroom of his house on Friday September 23 afternoon.

Shivaprasad was a second PU student of Guttigar government PU college in the taluk. He came home from the college on Friday afternoon, and committed suicide thereafter. The incident has come as a shock for his family. It is said that he had confessed to a few family members that he found the ongoing mid-term examination to be very tough.

The personnel of Subrahmanya police station have registered a case. Investigation has been taken up.

    Shocking and saddening! What is happening to our so-called civilised society? It's high time the authorities and social welfare organisations take the issue seriously and urgently. An isolated, once in a while incident has today turned out to be a daily occurence ending precious lives of teenagers and young adults. It's imperative now that children should not be allowed to live in isolation. Parents need to keep an watchful eye on their children's activities and know their needs and problems as well as console and comfort them during their difficulties.
